[Video] Talking Global Real Assets with Michael Underhill

Watch Michael Underhill, portfolio manager of the North Square Global Resources & Infrastructure Fund, discuss potential advantages to investing in global real assets.

Allocating to Global Real Assets

Global real assets have continued to find a place in many institutional portfolios. Leading endowments such as Harvard, Yale, Princeton and others have allocated up to 25% of assets to real estate and natural resources – broadly defined as real assets.

North Square Investments believes there is an opportunity for financial advisors to allocate to global real assets as a complement to common stock and bond portfolios.

“I think you’re early innings right now, and now we’ve reset the clock in terms of volatility. Inflation is accelerating, so now is time to allocate to real assets and buy inflation when its cheap.

In other words, buying an umbrella when the sun is shining.”  —Michael Underhill

Given that the investment horizon of many clients spans decades, the potential benefits of investing in global real assets may include inflation protection, volatility reduction and return enhancements.

Watch this video with portfolio manager Michael Underhill to understand the benefits of even a small allocation to global real assets in client portfolios.

Important Risks: Equity securities, such as common stocks, are subject to market, economic and business risks that may cause their prices to fluctuate. Investments made in small capitalization companies may be more volatile and less liquid due to limited resources or product lines and more sensitive to economic factors. The Fund may invest in foreign securities which involves certain risks such as currency volatility, political and social instability and reduced market liquidity. Emerging markets may be more volatile and less liquid than more developed markets and therefore may involve greater risks. The Fund may invest in ETFs (Exchange-Traded Funds) and is therefore subject to the same risks as the underlying securities in which the ETF invests as well as entails higher expenses than if invested into the underlying ETF directly.
